Working towards a smarter marine sector

Oglaend System recently hosted representatives from Nelfo/NISS – a Norwegian trade association for electro. The topic of the day was how we can utilize smart solutions to improve the competitiveness of the Norwegian supplier industry’s within electrical systems for ships.

Standardisation in the engineering phase

Engineers can choose from pre-defined installation methods that will fit the build’s requirements. By working this way, it will reduce time spent on engineering and result in tested and tried methods that are fully documented.

Effective installation

Oglaend System has developed several innovative solutions for ships in close cooperation with the industry through 25 years.

The RZE-R cable ladder is frequently used in the industry, due to the reduced installation time. Installation is quick and requires few tools. The unique hole pattern makes it possible to make directional changes, both vertical and horizontal. Nelfo and NISS got the chance to try bending this cable ladder to create a horizontal bend. To do these adjustments you only need a bolt cutter and a pallet.

We are now offering this DNV approved and unique cable ladder in aluminium. Selecting an aluminium support system is an effective measure for saving weight.

Avoid welding

During the visit it was demonstrated how easy it is to install fasteners without welding. By using new technology from Hilti, you can fasten support for cables, pipes or ventilation, even after surface treatment of the structure. The method is called “post paint fastening on steel (FOS)”.

Smart solutions pre-paint

Another system that is developed with the marine industry in mind is MultiGrid® Light. The idea is that if you weld a grid of starter brackets then you will have enough fastening points for the support system, which will enable you to make directional changes or modifications throughout the vessels entire operating time. Then you will avoid excessive welding and you can adjust the support system without having to use an angle grinder.

The goal is to create a smarter marine sector together. Thank you for the visit Nelfo and NISS!
